Chile – Day Three

June 22, 2014 at 3:03 pm (Missions) (, , , , )

Today we got to put our training from yesterday to good use with two outreach events. First, we went to the soccer school to play soccer with the local kids. This was interesting because at first they did not want to mix teams. They wanted to play Chilenos vs Americanos, but we asked them to teach us and they came around.

We tried our best, and I think they only started to pass the ball to us when they saw how willing we were to work hard. One cardio workout, one rolled ankle, and one point-blank pass straight to my stomach (I was “blocking” the kick.), and we still lost, but we hope we established relationships that will continue to grow throughout the week.

After almuerzo, we went to a park for some puppet ministry. This was our first public presentation of the drama we learned last week, so the team was a little nervous, but it went very well. The audience was engaged, and the pastor was able to invite everyone to vbs, church, and a baking class for the women.

In the evening we got to attend the youth group at a church called Oriente. They kept saying how blessed they were to have us.

Tomorrow is our day of rest. We will attend church and then spend the day with our host families.

Pray that our relationships would be fruitful and that God will bless our efforts to communicate, since most of our team does not know Spanish at all.
